Volunteering can open doors to unexpected and exciting experiences. My volunteering experience with Binary Styles x Limehouse Fashion Presentation not only expand my horizons but also redefine my perception of a fashion show.
The event took place at the Lime House at Keong Saik on June 17th, 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM. The Binary Styles x Limehouse Fashion Presentation was more than just a showcase of clothing; it was an immersive experience. The event was a celebration of sustainable fashion, featuring a pop-up store with brands including Iliana Arrazola Jewelry, Uj Yuna, and Natural World Eco. It was inspiring to see how fashion and sustainability could go hand in hand.
The runway featured a diverse mix of models, both professional and non-professional. What unified them was their unwavering dedication to putting on a great show. The inclusivity and diversity celebrated on the runway were heartwarming. The show celebrated diversity in every aspect – different ages, genders, and races were represented. It was a testament to the power of fashion in breaking down barriers and bringing people together.
The fashion show went beyond the traditional runway walks. Special performances, like roller skating and a captivating dance to Miley Cyrus's "Flower," injected energy and excitement into the event. The models are so supportive to each other. I was so amazed by how they can showcase themselves confidently. I used to try modeling for the last project with SYNE and I found it so difficult to pose especially when there are people around looking.
Lynette and I had a specific role to play in this vibrant fashion presentation. We were entrusted with the responsibility of handling hairdos and makeup for the models. At first, the idea of working on the models' makeup was a bit intimidating as we are not professional MUA artists, but Ms. Anisa's encouragement pushed us to step out of our comfort zones. We used an eye palette with a bling effect to create striking and bold eye makeup looks. All of the models were incredibly nice and patient with us while we worked on our makeup. The process allowed us to express our creativity and contribute to the unique visual storytelling of the show..
Despite the limited time frame, we all worked hard during the rehearsals. Even if there were a few glitches during the rehearsals, they were quickly resolved thanks to the collaboration of all models. The event's location was very visually-appealing as it is one of the historical shophouses at Keong Saik Road, and it matches well with the brand’s vibes. We made the most of the limited space, transforming the small storeroom into an efficient makeup room. I got the opportunity to meet the brand owners. Their passion for design, tropical prints, and commitment to quality was evident. I felt honored to be part of a show that showcased such creativity.
In a nutshell, it was an eye-opening experience for me. It taught me that fashion is not just about clothing; it's a means of expression, celebration, and unity. The Binary Styles x Limehouse Fashion Presentation redefined my understanding of fashion shows, showing me that they can be inclusive, diverse, and incredibly fun. I am also grateful to Ms. Anisa for giving me this opportunity to be part of the fashion presentation.
